Choosing the best wall panel adhesive for you!

Wall panels, also known as cladding, wall boards, aqua panels (for bathrooms) or decorative wall coverings, are a versatile way to enhance interiors and exteriors. Whether you're installing shiplap, beadboard, or 3D decorative panels, choosing the right adhesive is crucial for a durable and professional finish. This guide will help you select the best wall panel adhesive for your needs.

Understanding Wall Panel Adhesives

Wall panel adhesives are designed to bond panel materials—like wood, PVC, MDF, or metal—to walls, which may be bare brick or skimmed plaster. They ensure the panels stay in place, resist wear and tear, and maintain their aesthetic appeal over time. A high-quality adhesive saves time during installation and reduces the risk of panels detaching later.

There are several adhesives on the market claiming to be the best, at various different price points. However, we have tested the majority of the market leading brands and come to the following conclusion.

There are two main adhesives that are ideal for adhering wall panels each have their pros and cons.

Acrylic based adhesive –

These adhesives have a great initial grab and once cured provide a strong durable bond.

Pros:

  • Usually, more affordable- especially if doing many boards.
  • Very versatile to use.
  • Strong initial grab.

Cons:

  • Mainly for interior use only.
  • Not great for PVC and plastics.
  • Not flexible.
  • Can fail if damp or water gets through.

Our recommendation for a acrylic based adhesive would be the XPRO Grab & Fixxx. An amazing value for money and suitable for a vast majority of wall panel applications.

Hybrid Polymer based adhesive-

These types of adhesives are a step up from the acrylic based adhesive and encompass hybrid polymer technology which has a lot more versatility.

 Pros:

  • High strength initial grab.
  • Can be used on damp or wet walls.
  • Can be used internally and externally.
  • Can also be used as a sealant.
  • Can be used on almost most material panels.
  • Can stick panels directly to bare brick.

 Cons:

  • More expensive.

Our recommendation for the best hybrid polymer adhesive is XPRO StixSeal. An ultra strong adhesive that that will stand the test of time.

In summary both are great in their respective applications, however if the budget can be stretched we would definitely say to get XPRO StixSeal!
